One can certainly consider Sebastian de Vivanco as one of the most neglected composers of the Spanish Golden Age, and by an irony of History, this situation may be mainly due to the birth, around the same time and precisely in Avila - his hometown - of another titan of Spanish music, Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548-1611). Undoubtedly blinded by the absolute splendor of Victoria, musicologists and performers have been rather slow to discern in this same constellation another star of equal brilliance. This important recording made by Michael Noone at the head of the Orchestra of the Renaissance of Richard Cheetham, released in 2002 by Glossa and happily recovered for the Glossa Cabinet collection, reveals the music of Vivanco, particularly his Missa In manus tuas, in all its splendor.
