"What I hold most dear, I will keep in my name." It is very likely this conviction that guided a series of harpists - from Leonardo Mollica, the most renowned virtuoso of the late Renaissance, to Orazio Michi, Marco Marazzoli, and Giovan Carlo Rossi (brother of the more famous Luigi) - to change their name to Leonardo, Orazio, Marco, and Carlo "dall'Arpa." Although none of them were born in Rome, it is there that their careers unfolded. Restoring an identity to these musicians is the main objective of this recording project. The portraits of these virtuosos of the "queen of instruments" are the result of a long process of research, study, transcription, and arrangement carried out by Riccardo Pisani and Chiara Granata.
The ensemble La Smisuranza, with its unique formation of three double harps, accompanies tenor Riccardo Pisani on this exciting sonic journey, characterized by vibrant and changing instrumental textures that alternate intimacy and exuberance in relation to the sung poetic text. Pisani, a singer "blessed with a warm and captivating voice" (Diapason), presents the music of his hometown after the recent success of La Cetra di Sette Corde, a recording dedicated exclusively to the 17th-century tenor Francesco Rasi.
