Description

Since their creation, REZN has explored the austere and monochromatic depths of underground metal and fused them with the kaleidoscopic delights of psychedelia, prog rock, and shoegaze. With their latest album Burden, they probe the deepest and darkest trenches of their sound while maintaining a lifeline in the cosmos. At the crossroads of the hazy dimensions of modern psych bands like Black Angels, the cavernous darkness and reverb-soaked guitars of bands like Spectral Voice, and the low-end meditations of artists like OM, REZN has created Burden, an album of immense amplification power and intoxicating instrumentation.
Burden was recorded at the same time as the previous album, Solace, in July 2021 at Earth Analog Studios in Tolono, IL, by Matt Russell. Rather than releasing a double album, REZN divided the material into two distinct discs, each with its own emotional timbre. While Solace aimed to elevate and create a sense of narcotic dreaminess, Burden leans towards themes of delirium, claustrophobia, and misery. Musically, Burden favors atmospheric riffs, etheric percussion, dissonance over beauty, but there is always an undeniable cohesion between it and its predecessor.
