Description

The debut of the famous conductor René Jacobs on the ArchivOrlando label is Handel's first great opera, inspired by the Furioso Roland, the famous novel by Ariosto. It places the title role Orlando in a succession of situations where his love for Angelica will be constantly thwarted, the magician Zoroaster plunging him into scenes of madness that have remained famous. Recently awarded a Grammy Award, René Jacobs superbly conducts the B'Rock Baroque Orchestra of Ghent as well as an exceptional cast including countertenor Bejun Mehta in the title role. The latter has also been described as "one of the most imposing and exhilarating countertenors of the modern era" by the New York Times.
