A good musical trio is always more than the sum of its parts, and for over twenty years, the collaboration of pianist Michel Reis, bassist Marc Demuth, and drummer Paul Wiltgen has developed a unique artistic personality. Not only has it given rise to several remarkable recordings, but it has also helped put Luxembourgish jazz on the international map. Today, by collaborating with an orchestra led by Vince Mendoza — who also contributes some of the orchestrations — and with guest saxophonist Joshua Redman, the trio delivers Freedom Trail, a new powerful musical statement that elevates the group to a higher level of creative ambition. Thoughtful and sensual in turn, the album demonstrates how an ensemble that plays as a single entity can resonate with the listener as a whole. An essential modern listen. Under the supervision of producer Ermanno Basso, Freedom Trail was recorded in July 2022 at the Luxembourg Philharmonic by Tijmen Zinkhaan and Werner Pensaert, mixed in July 2025 in Huizen (Netherlands) by Tijmen Zinkhaan, and then mastered by Nathan James at Vault Mastering Studios, Phoenix (Arizona – USA).
