Since the album Moodswing by saxophonist Joshua Redman to the recent Highway Rider by pianist Brad Mehldau, these two are closely linked. Longtime friends and collaborators, these two exceptional leaders come together today on a first duo album. "Nearness" is a selection of duo recordings from their recent European tour. Brad Mehldau first made a name for himself as a member of Joshua Redman's quartet in the 1990s, before becoming the leader of his own group. The duo first came together in 2010, when Joshua Redman came to play on Brad Mehldau's album "Highway Rider."
