The mix of genres, revolutionary for the time, suits Ray as he moves from blues-tinged jazz to a muscular soul in the style of Booker T & The M.G.’s. This musical fusion is often instrumental, allowing Ray's sidemen to showcase their talent, with the brilliant brass accompanying Mr. Charles's organ being one of the major highlights of this mutant album, recorded in New Jersey at Rudy Van Gelder's studio.
