Dive into the heart of Essex with "SUBURBIA CALLING," where punk, hip-hop, and indie rock come together to tell the stories of today's youth. Rat Boy, a British band led by Jordan Cardy, began their career in 2013 by mixing punk, hip-hop, and indie rock. Known for lyrics that reflect the challenges of youth, the band quickly gained popularity: their debut album, "Scum" (2017), was critically acclaimed, incorporating influences from The Clash and the Beastie Boys. ‘SUBURBIA CALLING,’ Rat Boy's upcoming third album released via Hellcat, was recorded in Los Angeles with Tim Armstrong of Rancid. During the creation of this album, they played at festivals around the world, in Japan and China, and toured North America with The Interrupters, among others. Yet, despite these global adventures, it is their home that inspires them the most. Their third album, ‘SUBURBIA CALLING,’ explores their roots in Essex, capturing the essence of their environment with local stories that blend catchy melodies and infectious rhythms. The album is inspired by Britpop, 90s indie, and the groove of 2-Tone. Jordan Cardy, the singer, explains: “I wanted to sing about Essex. It’s home to us, and there’s so much to tell.” RAT BOY is completed by Liam Haygarth (bass), Harry Todd (guitar), and Noah Booth (drums). The demos and live performances of each song were first recorded in the moment and then reworked with producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur…).
