Manifold of Partially Actualized Realities is the new album by Randall Dunn, released by Kou Records. A producer, composer, and one of the architects of deep and spatial sounds in contemporary music, he is known for his collaborations with Sunn O))), Oneohtrix Point Never, David Torn, and countless other artists from the heavy, experimental, and avant-garde scenes. This album is a meditation on fractured realities, time, and mortality, a mirror that folds in on itself, and on how future events affect the past. It draws inspiration from Philip K. Dick's "pink light experience" from 1974, during which the author reported receiving a transmission from a vast extraterrestrial intelligence: dense, ancient, and unsettling information. Dunn approaches this both as a concept and as a compositional logic: music that unfolds in layers, collapses, reconstitutes, and refuses any resolution. Over the course of four tracks, Dunn deploys a whole arsenal of vintage synthesizers (Korg MonoPoly, Korg MS-20, PPG Wave, CS-80, Juno-60, Waldorf Strings, Fizmo) alongside an exceptional cast. The texts recited by Jim Jarmusch (drawn from PKD's prose) and Laima Leyton (inspired by *Time* by Robert Graves) anchor two of the four tracks in language without explaining them. The album transitions from chamber orchestral writing to electroacoustic abstraction, culminating in a final track "Ayn" that opens with ecstatic jazz, featuring Cyro Baptista, Briggan Krauss, Henry Fraser, Charmaine Lee, and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe. A true electroacoustic writing in the fullest sense of the term: spectral, physical, and completely open.
