Baida

Description

Although he has a long career behind him, Ralph Alessi signs his first ECM album as a leader with Baida. A valued partner of artists such as Steve Coleman, Uri Caine, Ravi Coltrane, Fred Hersch and Don Byron, a gifted improviser and recognized leader of his own groups, Alessi is capable of playing anything. To bring his compositions to life, the trumpeter has surrounded himself with some of the best New York musicians: pianist Jason Moran, double bassist Drew Gress and drummer Nasheet Waits. This quartet of virtuosos displays extraordinary subtlety in its playing while allowing a real tension to emerge, expressing all the sensuality and power it contains. This album lets you fully appreciate the silvery tone of Alessi’s trumpet, “round and luminescent as the full moon” (New York Times).
