Smetana is deeply attached, in his life and in his work, to his country. His most famous work, The Moldau, taken from the cycle My Homeland, is the composer's evocation of the Czech river, a tributary of the Elbe. This powerfully evocative music is performed by Rafael Kubelik with unique emotion: the great conductor, who left Czechoslovakia under dramatic circumstances, projected a part of his life into this recording.
