Tutta Sola

Description

In her new album Tutta sola, violinist Rachel Podger performs the "solo" repertoire of five European composers who all celebrated the New Year 1700. This is a magnificent baroque program composed of pieces for solo violin: preludes, dances, and fugues. When discussing baroque violin repertoire, one name immediately comes to mind: Johann Sebastian Bach. However, the German composer is neither the only nor the first to have experimented with "senza basso" – music without accompanying bass. In addition to J.S. Bach, this recording features music for solo violin by Johann Joseph Vilsmayr, Nicola Matteis Jr, Johann Paul von Westhoff, and Giuseppe Tartini. All were also remarkable violinists… Rachel Podger's previous solo album was praised by BBC Music Magazine as "a stunning interpretation of Bach's Cello Suites. A mesmerizing recording that is undoubtedly Podger's best to date." It was included in the Guardian's Top 10 Classical CDs of 2019.
