Quintette piano

Description

Louise Farrenc (1804-1875) was one of the first accomplished female composers in France in the 19th century. Born into a family with a strong artistic background, she became an accomplished pianist (having studied with Moscheles and Hummel), then went on to teach at the Paris Conservatory. These two piano quintets (with double bass) are firmly rooted in the classical tradition of Schubert, Schumann, and Mendelssohn. They are delightful, brilliantly written works, full of instrumental virtuosity and melodic invention.
