This previously unreleased live recording, captured in Paris on the day of his twenty-eighth birthday, is stunning proof of that. After his whirlwind tour in 1960 ("Quincy Jones Live in Paris 5-7-9 March / 19 April 1960," FA5460), the young conductor returned in 1961 with an "all stars" big band that notably included the cream of the hard bop movement: Freddie Hubbard, Melba Liston, Curtis Fuller, Phil Woods, Sahib Shihab... Mastery, groove, and swing make this album an absolutely essential recording!
