Beethoven Quatuors à cordes Opus 130 et 133

Description

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat Major Op. 130, Great Fugue in B-flat Major Op. 133 (original final movement of Op. 130). It is in the original version from 1826 that Signum presents this vast String Quartet Op. 130. Played only once during Beethoven's lifetime, this work was later revised and simplified at the request of its publisher. Yet it is in this original form that this monumental work takes on its full weight, at the twilight of the composer's life. The six movements of the original version also reflect the desire to reconcile the heterogeneous into a whole, featuring a Cavatina inspired by vocal air, a Danza tedesca inspired by folk dances, and this Great Fugue inspired by the most scholarly tradition of musical writing. In this finale, the shadow of Bach looms over Beethoven's work, who regarded the cantor of Leipzig as the most imposing genius of learned writing: his gigantic fugue aims to stand in opposition to him.
