Le Sette Ultime Parole Dei Nostro Redentore In Croce

Description

The Seven Last Words of Christ with interspersed Latin text. The Bishop of Cadiz in Andalusia commissioned this work from Haydn to be played on Good Friday, alternating with his own meditations on the Seven Last Words of Christ. He would ascend the pulpit to proclaim his text in Latin, likely in a rather emphatic style. Here we have placed Gospel texts related to these seven last words of Christ, in Latin, to allow meditation while following the translation in the booklet. We have kept here the title of the work as it appears on the original score, in Italian, as was often the case for musical works of that era.The interpretation by the Ludwig Quartet is attentive, prayerful, full of tenderness, without showy effects, conveying intimate fervor, confident, in the magnificent acoustics of Champeaux. - RépertoireThe Ludwig Quartet - one of the best current quartets - gives an interpretation of this work that is "attentive, prayerful, full of tenderness... conveying intimate fervor, confident... in the magnificent acoustics of Champeaux."
