The Bela Quartet is one of those rare multi-award-winning chamber music ensembles recognized for their work on the classical repertoire, yet they remain completely open to encounters beyond Europe with neighboring musical traditions. They have collaborated with percussionist Youssef Hbeish and luthier Ahmad Al Khatib, or in the duo Sabil, with whom they joyfully explore Eastern modal music. Here, they accompany Malian Ngoni player Moriba Koïta with poetry and fervor: the depth of Mandingue string music and the smoothness of the quartet's strings weave together a vibrant musical fabric, driven by a balanced sense of sharing and a constant attentiveness to one another.
