Description

Le Naïs de Rameau, a wonderful fable in the taste of the 18th century, by the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra, under the direction of Gyorgy Vashegyi. The conductor Gyorgy Vashegyi, the Purcell Choir, and the Orfeo Orchestra are passionately fond of the French baroque repertoire. This time they offer us an opera by Rameau composed in 1749, Naïs, in a prologue and three acts. Naïs is a very demanding score for the title role (soprano Chantal Santon Jeffery) and Neptune (haute-contre tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen). Master of orchestration, Rameau revels in the numerous instrumental passages of this heroic pastoral: Naïs abounds in ballets depicted by minuets, rigaudons, and tambourins that the Orfeo Orchestra delivers with all the energy that this eminently modern music demands.
