Profiler is a wake-up call for Nu-Metal in the mind of singer and guitarist Mike Evans. This band is inspired by those who have driven change in genres, the arts, and theories. It is a weight of legacy that Profiler is comfortable taking on, backed by SharpTone Records, its home since 2020. After starting a solo project in Bristol, UK, Mike left the studio and took to the stage, bringing in bassist/vocalist Joe Johnson and drummer Oscar Hocking. In early 2023, Oscar left to be replaced by Brad Ratcliffe, cementing the lineup that would forge the 2024 debut album, A Digital Nowhere. Profiler’s Nu-Metal-Grunge-Alt-Rock, call it what you will, is a distorted and abrasive soundscape that reverently recalls the heyday of these genres. Profiler speaks to anyone who misses or missed the contagious Seattle grunge movement of the 90s or the Nu-Metal explosion that dominated the 2000s and the genre bands for which they paved the way. A Digital Nowhere is the audio embodiment of this fusion with a 2023 filter applied and completed by a vocal diversity that moves effortlessly from a trippy Shoegaze-like haze to quintessential Nu-Metal rap and disjointed screams. Lyrically, A Digital Nowhere draws on Terence McKenna’s idea of a technological singularity and humanity’s dangerous thirst for technological progress, culminating in a point of no return. Mike counters the frenzy of technology and simulation with Buddhist spiritual teachings that run throughout the record. With a reputation for memorable live shows, Profiler has secured notable support slots across the UK (Memphis May Fire/Monuments) and festival appearances (2000 Trees), bringing the wake-up call to the forefront of the scene.
