Liturgical Music from the Early 17th CenturyAbout fifteen years ago, a previously unknown document, the "Manuscript Carlo G.," was purchased at a flea market in Vienna for 60 euros.Although the document dates from the time of Carlo Gesualdo and despite the famous composer's taste for anonymity, it seems that the Prince of Venosa is not its author...Thanks to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and the ensemble Profeti della Quinta conducted by organist Elam Rotem, we can now listen to a wide selection of pieces from this manuscript.This is liturgical music from the early 17th century that was certainly performed in central Italy in a way very close to what we hear in this recording.The magnificent acoustics of the Italian church dei Santi Eusebio e Vittore in Peglio complete the authenticity of a fascinating project from every point of view and listening!
