The Seasons

Description

Virtuoso sonatas, tarantellas, and chaconnes from 17th-century Italy are brought to life in a single breath by the young ensemble Prisma, winner of the eeemerging program. The four musicians enhance this colorful program with their improvisations, serving as variations on the theme of the seasons. Prisma is a group of young musicians who have come together around the expressive, unique, and colorful music of the 16th and 17th centuries. In May 2015, Prisma won the 1st Prize at the Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber International Competition in Austria, which subsequently led to invitations to perform at the Biber Festival in Vienna, at the Reihe Historischer Musik of the Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, as well as on the airwaves of Westdeutscher Rundfunk. On stage, Prisma seeks to convey music as a story being told: the musicians speak with their instruments, support each other, and sometimes argue, thus translating the expressive power of the repertoire.
