Finally, a real new Prince album! 12 unreleased songs entirely written and recorded at Paisley Park by Prince in 2010. After the subsequent tour, the "Welcome 2 America Tour," the album was postponed. Ultimately, Prince, always extremely creative, moved on to a new project, setting this album aside for later... until this upcoming July 30th.
Welcome 2 America is a powerful statement illustrating Prince's questions, his hopes, his vision of a changing society, announcing the beginnings of an era of political divisions, misinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice.
It features a Prince who is still melodically very inspired, disregarding all genres to create his unique music mixing funk, rock, jazz, soul, and pop.
The Deluxe edition of Welcome 2 America will include the complete studio album on CD and on black vinyl (+ a voucher for an HD download) as well as a complete unreleased concert from the April 28, 2011 performance at The Forum, in 1080p HD stereo, 5.1 surround, and Dolby Atmos.
The concert video shows Prince playing with the 2011 New Power Generation lineup — with, of course, Shelby J., Liv Warfield, Elisa Fiorillo, and Morris Hayes, but also additional keyboardists Renato Neto and Cassandra O’Neal, bassist Ida Nielsen, drummer John Blackwell, and dancers Maya and Nandy McLean (The Twinz). Recorded midway through his "21 Nite Stand" marathon at The Forum in Inglewood, California, this performance captures the spontaneity and incendiary energy of this historic moment from the Welcome 2 America tour—a video testament to the declaration he made at the start of the tour in October 2010: "Bring your friends, bring your kids, and something to cool your feet, because... it’s going to be funky!"
