Oru Ye Ye Ye is a masterpiece of Edo highlife recorded in Benin City, Nigeria, by Prince Omo Lawal-Osula and his family orchestra. Through long medleys, the group showcases hypnotic polyrhythms, electric guitars with psychedelic accents, and call-and-response singing full of jubilant energy. Chef Apala from Edo State, Prince Osula-Lawal is part of a musical tradition that dates back several centuries and has recorded dozens of records, often on his own label Arala. Captured and mixed by Sir Victor Uwaifo at the legendary Joromi Studio, Oru Ye Ye Ye stands out for its spirit of experimentation, where reverberated guitars weave through powerful layers of percussion. Highly sought after by collectors, the album is here reissued from restored tapes with the agreement of the artist's family.
