When Dana Margolin began to reflect on the themes of Porridge Radio's new album, three striking words quickly emerged: joy, fear, and infinity. The cover of the band's third album, Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky, is a surreal image that evokes diving, sliding slopes, and the existential angst of life lately. For her, the feelings of joy, fear, and infinity coexist; one is never simply happy or unhappy. After the release of Every Bad in 2020, Dana Margolin quickly became one of the most magnetic leaders of the moment. But while Every Bad showcased Dana's bravery as she laid herself bare, her band's third album takes her to new heights. Although there are moments of guttural release, there is now also softness in her songs. The band's first new single, “Back To The Radio,” is a kind of rallying cry that contrasts with Dana's lyrics of panic and self-isolation. This song is just one example in the album of this exploration of something that has long been an important part of Porridge Radio's process: the playful aspect of things and life.
