Fear of a Blank Planet

Description

Having recently announced that Snapper Music will represent Porcupine Tree's Transmission label worldwide, new CD and LP reissues of the band's vast catalog will be released throughout 2021. Originally released in 2007, "Fear of a Blank Planet" is Porcupine Tree's ninth studio album. It was the band's best-selling album at the time, the first to enter the Billboard top 100 in the United States and to chart in Europe. It earned the band a Grammy Award nomination and appears on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the greatest prog albums of all time. "Fear of a Blank Planet" is an ambitious 50-minute work composed of 6 tracks that complement each other to form a cohesive whole. British rockers Porcupine Tree created a concept album based on Bret Easton-Ellis's novel "Lunar Park," whose lyrics tell how the teenage protagonist struggles with his bipolar disorder and lack of attention through medication and over-stimulation via the Internet. The music uses sprawling melodies, atmospheric guitars, and drums that surge into chaotic moments to echo the main character's manic-depressive states. "Fear of a Blank Planet" features appearances by Robert Fripp (King Crimson) and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson.
