Here, the musical and narrative time. - - The album opens with Kujô-Shakujô, a Buddhist shômyô chant practiced by monks to ward off evil spirits. The second part of the album immerses us in the naval battle of Dan no Ura and the terrible decline of the Heike imperial clan against the Genji clans. - - Junko's tales thus freely surf on a hairy tumult with precise and impolite pulses. - - THE GROUP: This is a meeting and a musical creation between an expanded version of the band PoiL and the Japanese artist Junko Ueda around popular epic tales drawn from The Tale of the Heike, the third part of a classic of medieval Japan. - - The composition is based on the work of Junko Ueda and the tradition of sung storytelling accompanied by the Satsuma Biwa. The first part is written around a shomyo chant, ‘kujo shakujo’, a monodic ritual to ward off evil spirits, the second part recounts the naval battle of Dan-noura, and the third part is dedicated to Yoshitsune, a great samurai with a tragic fate. - - An unprecedented experience where the electrifying and unbridled experimental rock of Poil intertwines with the calm and sinuous voice, the narrative strength, and the great charisma of Junko Ueda.
