Pluto

Pluto, although not necessarily one of those bands that immediately comes to mind as having had a decisive influence on the fabric of rock music, remains an excellent band, albeit little known and greatly underestimated. The band's only album, Pluto (originally released on the Dawn label in November 1971), became, during the latter half of the 90s, a highly sought-after item in the ever-expanding underground/progressive sector of the record collector market. Initially conceived by guitarist Paul Gardner and named after the Disney cartoon character, they formed in North London in 1970. The key members were Gardner and Alan Warner, two very experienced musicians from very diverse musical backgrounds. The album is a good mix of hard rock, progressive rock, and blues rock elements. The songwriting is quite solid, and there is no filler. This sole LP by Pluto is easy to recommend for those who enjoy early 70s hard rock bands.
