PJ Morton is an American soul singer also known as the keyboardist for Maroon 5.
From Cape Town to Cairo, PJ Morton shares his new album, entirely made in Africa. "Cape Town to Cairo" is a collection of songs he created in 30 days across four countries in Africa: South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt. Described as the best journey of his life, this transformative trip started as a simple idea last fall but instantly turned into his most expansive and inspired album to date. Without music, lyrics, or preconceived ideas, he set foot on the continent with two ideas in mind: a crazy dream of writing and recording his next album in less than a month, and a mission to immerse himself in as many cultures, stories, and communities as possible.
Surrounded by collaborators such as Fireboy DML, Mádé Kuti, Asa, Ndabo Zulu, and Soweto Spiritual Singers, as well as producers like P.Priime and The Cavemen, his own band, and local musicians, PJ Morton made music his common language. He expressed his feelings through songs that he and others composed on-site, side by side, in different studios, cities, and villages for the very first time. None of the tracks were written before his arrival or after his departure, and the arrangements highlight the musical genres unique to each country as well as the innate stylistic instincts that have made Morton a 5-time GRAMMY winner and 20-time GRAMMY nominee, whether it’s his soul, R&B, and gospel roots, or the pop prowess he honed with Maroon 5.
