This CD is the second volume of a series of radio recordings of Fritz Kreisler, made for the show "The Bell Telephone Hour" between 1944 and 1950. It contains several short encore pieces that made the violinist famous. In addition to essential works like the "Meditation" from Thaïs by Massenet and the Tango by Albéniz, this CD offers previously unreleased selections. Among the new additions to Kreisler's discography are the "La Folia" Sonata by Corelli, the Fantasy on Russian Themes by Rimsky-Korsakov, Chausson's Poème, and two pieces by Rachmaninoff: an arrangement of the main theme from the slow movement of the Second Piano Concerto and the Prelude in G minor. The exceptional quality of the original recordings captures Kreisler's expressive and magnificent playing with striking presence.
