The first, purely acoustic, extremely free, would encapsulate his love for the city of New York and his tireless exploration of what jazz still has to say. The second, electric, would draw from the flourishing energy of the young French generation the ingredients for a more sensual and immediate music. And to top it all off, why not release this double album in a timely manner? Rather than greedily consuming all this music at once, why not take the time to savor one and then the other? Designed as a single object, this double album was thus conceived as a meeting with the future to bring together the two halves of this fiftieth anniversary.
