Description

Despite its geographical isolation and evident economic precariousness, Burkina Faso was the cradle of a true cultural revolution during the 1970s, thanks to groups like Volta Jazz, Harmonie Voltaïque, and Super Volta, as well as artists like Amadou Balaké, Georges Ouedraogo, Abdoulaye Cissé, and Pierre Sandwidi. Nicknamed "the troubadour of the savanna," Pierre Sandwidi is one of the great Voltaic stars at the crossroads of the 1960s and 1970s. He is also one of the forgotten figures of Francophone African music, alongside prominent figures like Francis Bebey, G.G. Vickey, Amédée Pierre, André-Marie Tala, Pierre Tchana, and Mamo Lagbema. He is the author of eight 45 RPM records and two 33 RPM albums, as well as a handful of cassettes. A man of the province, he has always stood out for his social commitment and lyrics that often contrast with the concerns of his time. A sensitive and engaged artist, he has established himself as one of the most unique Voltaic voices of his generation.
