After the guitar was more or less "invented" in Spain (for this reason it was referred to as guitarra espanola or chitarra spagnuola), it wasn't long before it spread across Europe in the 17th century. Guitarist Pierre Pitzl presents this development on his first solo album with Accent. Exemplarily, he uses examples from three musical centers and the composers active in those places: Granata and Bartolotti in Rome, De Visée and Corbetta in Paris, and Sanz and Gerau in Madrid. The result offers an insight into the evolution of the instrument and its playing techniques. A new style of composition and playing was created hand in hand, producing a variety of repertoire that Pierre Pitzl interprets with bravado, being an expert in the "mixed style," this subtle alternation between strumming and picking.
