Joel « Pibo » Marquez is a renowned Venezuelan percussionist, specializing in salsa and Latin jazz. He has collaborated with artists such as Chico Freeman, Arturo Sandoval, David Valentin, Dominic Miller, Cheick Tidiani Seck, Juanes, Alfredo De La Fe, the Guayacan Orquesta and Aterciopelados. This album draws on the sounds of New York salsa from the 1970s and is inspired by the language of contemporary Colombian salsa, and features collaborations with major figures in salsa such as Ray Bayona, Eliazar Medina, Marcial Istúriz and Wason Brazoban, among others.
