Produced by Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska, the ten captivating and introspective tracks of Stranger In the Alps introduce us to the world of Phoebe Bridgers, a 22-year-old artist with a unique voice. A beautiful balance emerges from her work, a delicate dance between veiled lyrics and sincere emotions, between whispers and screams. Throughout the album, Bridgers contemplates and reflects on her personal experiences through unique songwriting; there are manifestos addressed to departed idols, canonical pop songs, and real incidents—all set against a backdrop of evocative imagery and karaoke-style subtitles. According to Bridgers, everything you hear has been guided by feelings: her music is what comes when she is in her most honest state, without any real intentions: she is the same person in her songs and in life. “I wasn’t trying to be too lo-fi, too hi-fi, too serious with myself, too disloyal… I’m confident enough to say that I’ve found my way,” Bridgers states. “I just wanted this album to represent who I really am.” Stranger In The Alps follows the 2015 single ‘Killer,’ produced by Ryan Adams in his Los Angeles studio and released on his label, Pax-Am. Since early 2016, the artist has toured with Julien Baker, Conor Oberst (who also collaborates on the track ‘Would You Rather’ from Stranger In The Alps), and Adams, to name a few. Bridgers will hit the road again next month, including opening for Cat Power and Noah Gundersen.
