Mort d'un Pourri

Description

In 1976, when Georges Lautner and Philippe Sarde conceived the instrumental colors for *Death of a Corrupt Man*, they immediately agreed to prioritize the smooth timbre of the saxophone. Lautner: "It wouldn't be bad if we had a soloist like Stan Getz…" Sarde: "Like Stan Getz?! My dear Georges, we *will* have Stan Getz!" True to his legendary exacting standards, the composer not only invited the jazz star to Paris, but also booked the talents of Billy Hart (Miles Davis's drummer) and the 100 musicians of the London Symphony Orchestra. A few months later, Getz arrived at Sarde's home and sight-read the film's theme in front of a fascinated director. "I immediately understood that I had the opening shot of *Death of a Corrupt Man* right there," recounts Georges Lautner. "I grabbed a camera and filmed him at Philippe's place! We then color-corrected the image, then edited the sequence with the opening credits." The recording sessions took place at the famous CTS English studios, John Barry's favored domain for the James Bond films. Film producer Alain Delon, of course, approved the result, certain that this soundtrack would make an impact on the public just like those of *La Piscine* or *Borsalino*. Today, it is more than time to rediscover this mythical album in its original format. Enhanced with 3 bonus tracks, including a bossa nova that is so "Getzian," all the tracks present on the original album have been re-extracted from a high-definition transfer of the analog tapes. We have thus been able to preserve all the dynamics of sound engineer Federico Savina's original mix and the beautiful depth of the orchestral passages. An audiophile album supervised by composer Philippe Sarde and his wife Clotilde.
