Like the hero, so large - he is a giant! - so gluttonous, so ill-mannered, sometimes so naïve, so implausible in his reasoning, laughing with such a huge laugh. Everything is filled with excess. And this excess is precisely that of a child's perspective. That is why even today, looking at the world through Gargantua's eyes is not in vain. It is not just a simple entertainment from the past, but an exercise to grow up, and why not become a Giant, that is to say, free to choose, love, and believe as one wishes, and not like one of those sheep of Master Panurge. Listening to Gargantua is to arm oneself to still fight today against this "strange obscurity" that keeps coming back. Philippe Noiret, Henri Virlogeux, Jacques Villeret, Bernard Haller seize Rabelais' words. In turn, they are fiery, tough, tender, devastating, impious, and comical. And all highlight the absurdity from which we would like to be nourished.
