Description

Guitarist Philippe Mouratoglou returns with Nautiles, a new program based on original compositions. In trio, with Ramon Lopez on drums and Bruno Chevillon on double bass, the three musicians present a work in which the beauty of sound, breathing space, and the creation of wide-open spaces prevail. And because they also know how to bring a lively, groovy rhythmic drive, balanced by moments of the highest elegance, the result is music that is both dreamlike — whatever the tempos — and intensely inhabited, harmoniously uniting the airy and the earthy. Carried by a rhythm section as subtle as it is bold, Philippe Mouratoglou offers music that owes as much to the pull toward the absolute of classical music as to a jazz heir to Great Black Music in its contemporary form, captivating through its very demands and charm.
