Stabat mater - laudate pueri dominum - confitebor tibi domine

For the first time, Philippe Jaroussky records one of the most popular masterpieces of sacred music, the moving Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, which he composed two months before his death. This is the last work of a young man who passed away at the age of 26 from tuberculosis. This poignant Stabat Mater was written for two voices (likely castrati), with a small instrumental ensemble. By entrusting the solo parts to female voices, Pergolesi thus allowed women to express maternal affliction and pain. The work is structured like an Italian cantata of the 18th century, with arias and duets. It became so renowned that it has been reinterpreted and adapted many times since, including by Bach himself! This new recording will be historic for multiple reasons: Philippe Jaroussky is unforgettable here: simplicity, superlative musicality, his voice embraces the contours of Pergolesi's phrases like a musical instrument, forming a magical duo with the young soprano Julia Lezhneva. Julia Lezhneva strips her voice of its gilding to join Philippe Jaroussky in an almost monastic simplicity. The third key artist of this Stabat Mater is Diego Fasolis, both sober and animated, who conducts the work masterfully, this trio of very great artists sharing a common concern to do justice to the work, which joins Mozart's Requiem at the pinnacle of masterpieces of sacred music. This event is complemented by two other rare sacred works by Pergolesi: the Laudate Pueri and the Confitebor, in which the Choirs of the Swiss Italian Radio are joined by our two soloists.
