Philipp Kopachevsky joue Scriabine et Liszt : oeuvres pour piano.

Description

This program reveals a fascinating diversity of styles: Scriabin's Preludes op. 11 are clearly inspired by Chopin's Preludes op. 28, both in their Chopinesque melodic lines and their extreme changes of atmosphere. These preludes are the most "classical" works on this disc, before plunging us into the darker, more mysterious universe of the late-period Scriabin, with the 10th Sonata and "Vers la flamme," sublime creations of a mind in search of connection with the spiritual forces of the cosmos. The harmonic language of the late-period Scriabin, the construction of chords by intervals of the fourth (instead of traditional thirds), finds a curious precursor in the late-period Liszt, whose Third Mephisto Waltz, Nuages gris, and Bagatelle sans tonalité use the fourth (or the augmented fourth, the tritone) as the basis of melodic and harmonic discourse. Philipp Kopachevsky is one of the most remarkable pianists of the young generation. A laureate of several international competitions, he is a highly sought-after soloist, having performed with conductors such as Rostropovich, Gergiev, Spivakov, Pletnev, and many others. This is Philipp Kopachevsky's second CD on Piano Classics.
