Peter John Joseph Murphy is an English rock singer born on July 11, 1957, near Northampton in the United Kingdom. Peter Murphy made his debut as the British singer of the band Bauhaus, a cult band of post-punk and gothic rock in England during the 1980s. While preparing Burning From The Inside (1983), Peter Murphy, who contracted pneumonia, only appears on half of the tracks, allowing the singing talents of guitarist Daniel Ash to take the lead, steering the band towards a more acoustic sound. After Bauhaus, he formed the band Dali's Car and then embarked on a solo career marked by numerous albums and stage reunions of Bauhaus in 2006. He has been living between New York and Turkey for several years. In 2011, Peter Murphy made his solo comeback with the album Ninth, released seven years after Unshattered. In 2013, he went on tour to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Bauhaus. On June 2, 2014, he released a new solo album titled Lion. This first release on Peter Murphy's own post-punk label Silver Shade features eight previously unreleased live versions of key tracks that have had a major influence on the former Bauhaus singer, including 'Funtime' by Iggy & Bowie (WXRT, Chicago, April 7, 1990), "Transmission" by Joy Division (The Blender Theatre At Gramercy, New York, June 27, 2008), "Final Solution" by Pere Ubu (Phantasy, Toronto, February 19, 1987), "Space Oddity" by David Bowie (Zona Industrial De Evora, Portugal, July 30, 2010), 'Purple Rain' by Prince (First Avenue, Minneapolis, May 6, 1988), 'The Light Pours Out Of Me' by Magazine (Phantasy, Toronto, February 19, 1987), the timeless classic by Elvis 'Love Me Tender' (4th & B, San Diego, April 5, 2000), and "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails recorded alongside Trent Reznor on piano (99X Studios, Atlanta, June 7, 2006).
