Petite messe solennelle

Description

The little gem of sacred music by Rossini, this "Petite Messe solennelle" does not neglect the sumptuous vocality to which the author of "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" accustomed us. The solo parts are wonderful, thanks to this enchanting melodic vein. It can be heard here in its original version even more flavorful, for four vocal soloists, mixed choir, two pianos & harmonium. The work was created in Paris in March 1864, in the chapel of a private mansion in the 9th arrondissement; at this time in his life when Rossini was living in France, in his country house in Passy. A choice cast constitutes the richness of this recording, notably with the excellent choir of the Bavarian Radio, all under the direction of the Dutch conductor Peter Dijkstra.
