Before Bardens joined Andrew Latimer, Andy Ward, and Doug Ferguson to form Camel, he recorded a single in 1969 with his band Village (which also included Bill Porter on drums and future Elvis Costello & The Attractions member Bruce Thomas on bass) for the short-lived Head Records label. In 1970, Bardens signed with Transatlantic and recorded his first solo album "The Answer" with Bruce Thomas, guitarist Andy Gee, and Reg Isadore on drums, as well as an uncredited guest appearance by Peter Green on guitar. The album included the lengthy piece 'Homage To The God Of Light', which was later performed by Camel in their live sets.
