Description

From Maqam to baroque motets, the vigor and brilliance of Jerusalem's cultural blending, set to music by the Pera Ensemble. The Pera Ensemble takes its name from a neighborhood in Istanbul, a melting pot of cultures and religions for millennia. We find its reflection in the members of the group formed by recognized specialists in European historicist interpretation as well as representatives of the elite of Middle Eastern music. This adventure led by Mehmet C. Yesilçay aims to extract ancient music from the museum context and awaken true emotions. Piyyoutim from synagogues and the brilliance of sultanates integrate into a baroque soundscape.
