Formed in Chicago in 2000, Pelican built its foundation in a hyper-creative city scene with no rules and no genres. This reunited version of Pelican allowed the band to tap into the spirit of their early days and build something distinctly new with Flickering Resonance. These songs draw as much from titanic 90s post-hardcore, space-rock, and emo as they do from traditional metal, showing that if Godflesh and Goatsnake records occupied the shelves of Pelican’s composers, so too did Quicksand, Christie Front Drive, and Hum. On Flickering Resonance, Pelican does not try to reinvent itself, but rather to emphasize elements that have often been overlooked.
