2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Paul McCartney's self-titled debut solo album. As hard as it is to believe, it has only been two years since Egypt Station reached number 1 - and it was just last year that Paul’s Freshen Up tour played its final show before Covid put a halt to live music. Paul had not planned to release an album in 2020, but in the isolation of "Rockdown," he quickly found himself fleshing out some existing musical pieces and creating even more new ones. An eclectic collection of spontaneous songs would become McCartney III: a stripped-down, self-produced work, and literally solo, marking the start of a new decade, in the tradition of McCartney from the 1970s and McCartney II from the 1980s. Recorded earlier this year in Sussex, McCartney III was primarily built from live takes of Paul on vocals and guitar or piano, adding his bass, drums, etc. on top of that foundation.
