Description

This third Patti Smith album would be the one to achieve commercial success, thanks to "Because The Night", written by Bruce Springsteen (her faithful collaborator, Jimmy Iovine, produced this record, which also helped a great deal). But while it is obviously more geared toward the mainstream than the previous ones (a little too much "here is Rimbaud’s punk girl"), this album is also simply very good, with the furious "Rock N Roll Nigger", "25th Floor" or "Set Me Free", a cover of the song from Privilege, the mythical sixties rock film. And tracks like "Ghost Dance", "Babelogue", "High On Rebellion" or "Godspeed" (bonus track on the CD) are original enough to keep Patti Smith from becoming just another "normal" rock artist.
