Description

Overshadowed by his elder brother Franz Joseph, Johann Michael Haydn enjoyed great esteem during his lifetime. There is evidence suggesting that the young Mozart borrowed from some of Michael Haydn’s compositions, and the stylistic resemblance between their music is such that some of Haydn’s works were long attributed to Mozart, including the Symphony in G major included in this first volume devoted to the Symphonies. All these inventive, lively works were composed in the 1780s and specially adapted to the court of Salzburg.
