The unfathomable spiritual depth of Rachmaninoff's Vespers To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Serge Rachmaninoff's birth, the PaTRAM Institute Male Choir invites you to discover the extraordinary beauty of his choral tour de force, the All-Night Vigil, composed in 1915. Rachmaninoff's setting of fifteen fixed texts intended for Saturday evening services is primarily based on traditional chant melodies. The experienced choristers from around the world, gathered under the name of the PaTRAM Institute Male Choir, recorded this album in the church of the Russian Orthodox Monastery of the Ascension, located amidst an olive grove on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. The lowering of the key in many pieces (to better suit male voices) allowed the eight octavists-basses present on the recording to give an exceptional depth to the sound of the choir. As expected, the result is fascinating!
