Bright Size Life (Luminessence-Serie)

Description

Pat Metheny debuted on ECM in 1974 as a member of Gary Burton's orchestra on the album "Ring," but "Bright Size Life," his first studio recording as a leader, is undoubtedly the album that decisively launched him into the world of modern jazz as one of the most brilliant and innovative musicians of his generation. Recorded in Ludwigsburg in December 1975, and produced by Manfred Eicher, the album featured the lineup Metheny regularly used on his tours at the time, with Bob Moses on drums and Jaco Pastorius on electric bass, a largely unknown virtuoso genius. "I could still play all the 'Bright Size Life' repertoire today with immense pleasure," Pat Metheny confided during an interview for the Library of Congress in 2021. "It's still very lively music; all its arguments seem pertinent to me and, in my opinion, deserve to be revisited.... My feeling at the time was to make a record as if it were the only one I would ever make in my career. I hoped to be able to put everything that was important to me in terms of melody, harmony, trio playing — and beyond that, to conceive a work where my conception of life itself would find expression."
