Formidable is the title of Pat Martino's first studio recording after an 11-year silence, and it's excellent news because we will rediscover the bold and virtuosic playing of the guitarist. Martino grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a musical melting pot where many jazz greats began their musical journey. He became one of the leading guitarists of the 1960s, having found his distinctive style by the age of 20. Today, the guitarist plays his instrument with the same enthusiasm, having lost none of his improvisational talents in service of a relentless groove. Martino's trio features Pat Bianchi and Carmen Intorre, Jr., the fiery saxophone of Adam Niewood, as well as the virtuosic trumpet of Alex Norris.
